The "Old Me" Welcomes the "New Me"

by Donna Doyon

The Old Me

Once upon a time I was afraid to turn my car around in a stranger's driveway, make phone calls and speak before people.

I thought I had the ability to do something important, but didn't know what that something was, nor how to go about accomplishing it.

The New Me

Today, I have overcome those fears. While I still hesitate before pulling into the driveway of a stranger, I do it. I don't put off phone calls for days now, although I still hesitate and my fingers still tremble as I push the buttons. I still get nervous when I speak before a group of people, but I believe I have an important message to share.

So I'm conquering my fears. It's an everyday task. But what else do I have to do? OK lots of things. But what else will give me the confidence to tackle even bigger fears than defeating the smaller ones?

It's often said "if I can do it, anybody can." That's a typical self-defeating statement. But in this case...

Well, if I can do it...
